Pressing In and Forward

I have been reading Philippians, it was probably written from Rome by Paul, the apostle. It is said that the Phillippian church was an ideal one, that it was “appreciative and benevolant.”

Today’s church is so different from what God wanted. Many pastors are not speaking the full truth. They are changing the meaning of what is written and allowing the church to be socially acceptable rather than teach how to live in today’s world and still keep to the values, teachings, commandments that God expects His people to live by….no matter what is going on.

We live in a time where it is becoming more and more important to ask questions, fact find, pursue the desire that God has put in each of our hearts. “What is it that God would want me to do?” Should be what we ask ourselves and God, daily!

Philippians 3:13 “Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do:forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead. I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”

Yes, pressing in and onward, I want to win the race. There is a race, we as Christians not only run toward spiritual desires and ambition but we have a race to pursue the lost.

We can no longer sit on the sidelines. We can no longer say, “not me, I can’t do that.” We must equip ourselves and pursue the lost. We must pray for God to lead and direct our steps.

God’s Word is alive, it is for us to use daily. Daily, we must be reading scripture and be praying for God’s guidance.

He is calling each of us to do our part! Step out, kneel down and let God work thru you.

Christ and His Power

Philippians 3:10 “I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, and so, somehow, to attain the resurrection from the dead.”

It is hard to understand fully these two verses. If you have something to add please do! But the following is what I understand

What I do know is that my heart is fully set on knowing him. Since May I have been slowly going through the New Testament.

But I am also in two Bible Studies, did group texting Bible devotions and just keep saturating myself with God’s word. What a difference this make in my daily walk.

I do know this, the only way to know His power is to be willing to sacrifice some time in getting to know him. And easily enough it is taking 15 minutes a day to read.Becoming like Him? Means that the more I spend with him, the less of who I used to be is a part of me. But it also requires going to Him and asking Him in your life.

Fellowship of sharing in his sufferings? Well the way I see it, is that when I asked God in my life, my heart was turned towards his cares, not my own. It became J.O.Y- Jesus, others, then myself. The old self is truly going bye-bye (It is a daily thing, that never goes away completely)! And the new, Christ in me, is here to stay. It takes work though! I didn’t understand until earlier this year, I kept God at arms length for many years…but even then He stayed with me, helped me through difficulties and He also taught me along the way….1. His ways are better 2. His promises are true 3. He honestly pursues to fulfill the plans of your life and mine and each year God never failed to direct me back to Him. We have to submit, give our life over to Him so he can shape and create what this world stole.

“Becoming like him in his death.” To become a child of God, one must “die” confessing their sins, acknowledging that Jesus died on the cross so that each one of us can have a new everlasting life in him! We won’t be fully complete until we are in Heaven. But we do have now the resurrection of the Lord’s power transforming us!! Seize it!!

Begin a true relationship with God. He does what He promises. He will bring you your heart’s desire, if it aligns with His.

Nothing compares to living a life with Christ. My heart’s desire is that those who are seeking things in this world to make themselves happy, give it up….nothing but knowing the Creator who created you can give you peace, understanding and a life truly worth living for. He is waiting, knock and the door will open. Let his resurrection power work within you to transform you in what He created you to be…a child of the one true King!

Being Confident in God

God leads us if we chose. He really does! I have lived a life walking without God. I have walked a life where going to church was something I enjoyed but the rest of the week it was a free-for-all, so to speak. Now, He is leading more each day and because of it I walk in confidence, freedom and His sight, not mine.

In order for us to allow someone to lead we must give up something of ourselves to properly follow. My confidence was in myself. Yes, we should have confidence in ourselves but God asks that we go to Him with all things. When we surrender plans, concerns, our day even, it is putting faith to work and being confident in God.

This is difficult to do when we are so used to planning, solving and just doing what appears to be the way to go. This is good for us to do (planning, solving…)but we should do it with God in the lead.

Philippians 3:7-9:

“But whatever was to my profit, I now considered lost for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things, and I consider them them rubbish, that I may gain Christ, and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through the faith in Christ, the righteousness that comes from God and is by faith.

We can’t gain coinfidence in God unless we are exercising our Faith.

The more we give to God, the more we gain and we can truly live in His righteousness, given to us by Faith in Him.

As Paul found out living a life for Jesus was far more greater than the things (rubbish as he put it) he had before he sought a life for Christ.

Trust and give God the lead of your life! He will not disappoint. As mentioned, I have lived without God, half in and half out or as some say on the fence and now I daily put my trust in Him! Some days are hard, but as in any relationship it takes time, commitment, understanding and trust.

Strength train….spend 5 minutes a day, reading one verse, pray and give thanks….you don’t lose that time…you gain.

Don’t know God? Ask Him into your heart. John 3:16: “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” Take a step of faith, be confident that God will meet you right where you are.

Looking After Others

When disaster strikes we see an overwhelming amount of support to those in need. It is great to see and when able, greater still to participate!

We have the ability to participate daily! How would things look like if we took the time, daily, to pray for God’s help in the things happening around the world? What is happening in Hong Kong, Israel, Texas, Chicago, Bahamas, Florida….pick and choose any state, your state, or country, if Christians took time in their day to pray….can you just imagine the power of God coming down on earth to help? I can.

Philippians 2:20-21 “I have no one else like him, who takes a genuine interest in your welfare. For everyone looks out for his own interests, not those of Jesus Christ.” This was Paul talking about Timothy. But these two verse I see so revelant today.

We must again put Christ first and in the issues of what is occurring today! Wake up Christians, come back, those that have turned away from God, He needs you! He needs each one of us looking to Him.

Those not knowing the one who created you-take time to seek Him. I can guarantee if you truly seek and find out about God, He will reveal himself. He needs you, helping with the battle of saving others.

Today begin to commit to prayer, daily. No longer be as Paul says “For everyone looks out for his own interests, not those of Jesus Christ.”

Jesus Christ did not die on the cross for nothing…..He died so that we might live. Jesus love was so great the He died so that we may have eternal Life! As Christians we must take this interest of His to heart and start finding ways to redeem his people.

Ask God what it is He wants you to do. Write out a prayer of the things on your heart, put it to prayer daily or more! Let’s be like Timothy and strength train in showing genuine daily care for those around us, for the turmoil in the world.

Strength train…but have it be God’s power working in and through you!! He has made you to go do great things in the lives of others.

Being a Light

God has perfect timing. You and I are here for purpose, His purpose. It does not matter that I may see that I have squandered the last 49 years not being a light to those who need it. Why? Because God uses everything in our lives up to today and the days ahead, no matter where we are in our walk with God.

This day is made for you and me to be a light. He is teaching me to do, as Philippians 2:14-16 says “Do everything without complaining or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe as you hold out the word of life–in order that I may boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labor for nothing.”

It is extremely hard if you are living each day by your own strength and not by God’s. But He gives us His Word to stand on and that is to be our strength.

He wants us blameless. This takes work! Strength training each day….and I guarantee when you get serious with the Lord and what He commands He will give you sessions/workouts in strength training yourself in the department of complaining and arguing…..for that matter, any area of your life that you need God in!

This day was created for you to shine in the universe! Each day we are living calls for us to be a light to those around us.

Let us start today and the coming days putting to practice what God is revealing so that we can shine for those around us that are grieving, that have lost hope or have never known what hope or faith look like. It may be that you give a silent prayer, that you “hold out the word of life”, it may be a gentle smile, it may be something else the Holy Spirit is bringing to your attention, respond and act as you need to.

Deeper Walk With God

2 years ago my friend Carrol and I started talking about the desire to go deeper into a relationship with God. Our desire was good but recently I realized we lacked a couple things. One, commitment to put God first. Two, to have that commitment be in reading the Bible. After having a Bible Study for a little over a year, we have succeeded at going deeper in our relationship with God.

A few months ago in our Bible Study group, reading from the book, Leaving Ordinary Encounter God through Extraordinary Prayer, by Donna Gaines, it was in the first chapter reading that relationship with God was to be a priority….but it wasn’t. From there Carrol and I started a text devotion.

It is our desire to now have this blog be a portal to where likeminded Christians that have a desire to deepen their relationship with God have this site do just that.

This blog is to share your daily reading of scripture, give insight, encourage and also be able to read what others are reading and discovering as the Lord guides, strengthens and equips each one devoted in going deeper still in the one true God.

I am still learning this blogging concept so please be patient.
